The oldest Presa Canario kennel in the world.

The idea of the Presa Canario as a breed, its name and its first draft standard came from Manuel Curtó's writing. We have bred it without a break since 1977.

Manifesto

Most of the presas in Tenerife descend from Irema Curtó dogs. We never told a fairy tale about where it comes from: the Presa is a new breed, made in the Canaries by breeding and selecting.

The genetic foundation of the Presa Canario

Mahan, Teguise, Campeón, Kabul and Nusca, all bred under the Irema Curtó affix, were the genetic foundation on which the official club built its breed. Most of the presas in Tenerife descend from them and from other dogs of ours.

Selection without a break since 1977: x-rayed hips, complete mouths and proven temperament before any dog is bred.

“A dog can only be called a Presa Canario if it was born in the Canary Islands, or if it descends, one hundred percent, from presas born in the Canary Islands.”

— Manuel Curtó Gracia

The grip of a presa, the temper of the land

  1. 01

    Steady

A serious animal, almost thoughtful, not much given to play, with a look that is nearly human.

  2. 02

    Self-possessed

Sure of himself, hard to bribe. He does not flinch at a stick or a threat.

  3. 03

    Balanced

He does not bite without cause. He can put up with children's mischief. There is no presa dog without temperament.

“It was a rustic dog, made by rough men for hard work.”
